Psalm 95:6-11 Oh come, let us worship and bow down; Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker. For He is our God, and we are the people of His pasture, and the sheep of His hand. Today, if you will hear His voice: “Do not harden your hearts, as in the rebellion, as in the day of trial in the wilderness, When your fathers tested Me; They tried Me, though they saw My work. For forty years I was grieved with that generation, and said, ‘It is a people who go astray in their hearts, and they do not know My ways.’ So I swore in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter My rest.’” (Hebrews 3:7-9, Hebrews 3:14-15).
Hebrews 4:4-7 For He has spoken in a certain place of the seventh day in this way: “And God rested on the seventh day from all His works”; and again in this place: “They shall not enter My rest.” Since therefore it remains that some must enter it, and those to whom it was first preached did not enter because of disobedience, again He designates a certain day, saying in David, “Today,” after such a long time, as it has been said: “Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts.”
Hebrews 3:18 To whom did He swore that they would not enter His rest, but to those who did not obey? Hebrews 4:1 Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it. Hebrews 4:10 For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His.
We have established that there is a rest to enter, and the time to enter it is today. What exactly is this rest, and how do we enter it? Well, we are told how, and this is by obedience, but to what? God’s Laws, His words, and His commands. The Israelites did not obey it, and did not enter the rest, now it is our turn. Will we obey and enter? I hope to God we do.
The REST and How to enter it
We will only enter this rest by obedience to God, and to do this, the work we cease from is the work of evil, not good. We can never stop doing good. The sins we are so familiar with has to stop, and the rest we get is from doing evil (A turning from sin to righteousness in Jesus). Only after we stop sinning, can we really rest in the mighty power of God, and this is why He says TODAY. It means every day we rest in Him.Isaiah 1:16-20 “Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; Put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes. Cease to do evil, Learn to do good; Seek justice, Rebuke the oppressor; Defend the fatherless, Plead for the widow. “Come now, and let us reason together, Says the Lord, “Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool. If you are willing and obedient, You shall eat the good of the land; But if you refuse and rebel, You shall be devoured by the sword”; For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.
Genesis 4:7 If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. Its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.” Exodus 20:20 Moses said to the people, “Do not fear; for God has come to test you, and that His fear may be before you, so that you may not sin.”
Ecclesiastes 5:6 Do not let your mouth cause your flesh to sin, nor say before the messenger of God that it was an error. Why should God be angry at your excuse and destroy the work of your hands?
Romans 6:12-13 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. Do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.
If you harden your hearts, no peace for the wicked (Isaiah 48:22).
Isaiah 1:21-31 How the faithful city has become a harlot! It was full of justice; Righteousness lodged in it, but now murderers. Your silver has become dross, Your wine mixed with water. Your princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves; Everyone loves bribes, and follows after rewards. They do not defend the fatherless, Nor does the cause of the widow come before them. Therefore the Lord says, The Lord of hosts, the Mighty One of Israel, “Ah, I will rid Myself of My adversaries, and take vengeance on My enemies. I will turn My hand against you, and thoroughly purge away your dross, and take away all your alloy. I will restore your judges as at the first, and your counselors as at the beginning. Afterward you shall be called the city of righteousness, the faithful city.” Zion shall be redeemed with justice, and her penitents with righteousness. The destruction of transgressors and of sinners shall be together, and those who forsake the Lord shall be consumed. For they shall be ashamed of the terebinth trees Which you have desired; and you shall be embarrassed because of the gardens Which you have chosen. For you shall be as a terebinth whose leaf fades, and as a garden that has no water. The strong shall be as tinder, and the work of it as a spark; Both will burn together, and no one shall quench them.
Enter HIS REST
Hebrews 4:11-13 Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience. For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. There is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account. God bless you.
