If a revelation is made to another sitting there, let the first be silent. For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all be encouraged, and the spirits of prophets are subject to prophets. For God is not a God of confusion but of peace. As in all the churches of the saints, the women should keep silent in the churches. For they are not permitted to speak, but should be in submission, as the Law also says. If there is anything they desire to learn, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church. Or was it from you that the word of God came? Or are you the only ones it has reached? If anyone thinks that he is a prophet, or spiritual, he should acknowledge that the things I am writing to you are a command of the Lord. 1 Corinthians 14:30-37
It took me a while to understand this passage of scripture and so I share it with you: It is not saying that a woman cannot talk, not so, Paul is stating that this is not permitted in church meetings, because there we come to LEARN, NOT TEACH. He also said that it is not him saying this but a commandment from God (verse 37). The scriptures were not given to women to proclaim, therefore when it is taught, women should learn quietly because they (men) were the ones appointed to proclaim it (12 apostles). This is talking to the saints, therefore the witnesses appointed by God to proclaim the gospel were not women and they had to learn it from the ones that Christ appointed quietly, or asked their husbands at home. After all, how can one learn whilst they are talking? One cannot teach until one has been taught and whilst being taught, one has to learn it in silence first. That is why it is the women who are asked to learn in silent, because the men listening needed to learn and hear it too. If they are making a fuss and noise whilst being taught, how can others listening hear it and learn anything? As it is a command from God, we cannot disobey it. Thus says the Lord; “Learn in silence” so there will be order in His church, because He is a God of order.
Hebrews 1:1-2 says now God is speaking through His Son. What have we got to say that is more important than Him? Let us learn to listen quietly so we can be taught by the Holy Spirit. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. (Revelation 3:22) If we listen quietly, we will hear Him and be taught by Him, because He is not speaking of His own authority. God bless you as you learn in silence.
