One may ask, how do you draw near to God? The answer is: By cleaning yourself and purifying your hearts. How on earth does one do this? To draw near to God, you need to believe that He exists (Hebrews 11:6). You cannot have a relationship with someone who does not exist, that would be impossible! After you do this, you also need to know that there is a reward for all those who seek Him, therefore your seeking is not in vain. God said if you seek Him with all your heart, you WILL find Him, but be careful that you do not disobey Him, because He is a jealous God and will not tolerate evil (Deuteronomy 4:23-29).
Jesus did not leave you powerless, help is available to assist you in your drawing, searching, cleansing and purifying so you have teachers available to help you. God provided this help by sending His prophets to tell us long ago about the promised Messiah (the old Testament). After they killed all God’s prophets, He finally sent His Son to redeem us (New Testament). Through His Son, we are cleansed from all unrighteousness and belong into a righteous heavenly kingdom. This kingdom is within you (Luke 17:20-21)the moment you receive it through Jesus Christ God’s Son.
He paid for our sins when they crucified Him and His death gave us the ticket we needed to enter God’s kingdom. When He returned to God, He left His Holy Spirit (John 14:15-20) to help us in our searching, so we can continue in God’s truth. God knew that after Christ left, false prophets would come and lead people astray (Mark 13:22), so He appointed 12 apostles who witnessed the works of His Son, the power He exercised through Him and the authority He gave to them to be His witnesses, to proclaim this to the people of every generation. Christ anointed them with the power of His spirit so others will see that they posses the same power Jesus had during His ministry and did the same work He did on earth. That way, no one could accuse them of wrong doing, because the power was no different from the one Jesus had. The same Holy Spirit empowered them to be bold in their teaching of Jesus Christ, proclaiming that He truly is the Son of God, and the people who put Him to death killed the giver of life (Acts 2:22-27).
Today, no one who witnessed this is alive today, but their testimony is recorded in 66 books called: The Holy Scriptures, The Tanach, The Bible. The Scriptures reports the work of: God, The prophets, The Kings, The Son of God and the Son’s Apostles or Witnesses. I think it is safe to say that we do not have a living human being who witnessed Jesus Christ in our generation, because they are all dead. To be able to find draw near to God, His guidance, and you need proof. There are many proof all around us in creation, but a witness within us who can testify this. This witness is still present, cannot lie or die. He saw everything that happened, He was present from the beginning (Genesis 1:2) and is still present today. He is the Holy Spirit of God, the best witness to all this. Jesus promised to send Him to lead us into all truth. He is the one that will help you draw near to God, the Spirit of truth (John 14:15-17). He was the one who empowered The Prophets to perform (Exodus 31:1-5), Jesus throughout His ministry (Matthew 313:17), The Apostles/Witnesses to continue (Acts 21-13) and He is the one who bears witnessing to you and leading you into all truth (John 16:13). Please make time to hear what He is saying to God’s people (Revelation 3:22). You have an ear, don’t You? Jesus promised that if He returns to His Father, He will ask Him (John 14:16) to send the Holy Spirit, and it has been fulfilled when He rested on the heads of God’s people at Pentecost (Acts 21-13). This same Holy Spirit is given to us by Jesus and He is more than willing to draw you to God right here, now. God is waiting for you to ask Him for His Holy Spirit, so you will be taught the truth. He is the Spirit of Truth (John 15:26), He cannot lie, but bear witness of Jesus, because He will not speak of His own (John 16:13). Ask God for His Spirit because it’s a good thing and God will not refuse those who ask Him any good things (Matthew 7:7-14). Equipped with His Holy Spirit, you will draw near to God.
There is a certain way to ask Him though. There are conditions for receiving God’s Spirit. One, you must believe that God exists, two, you have to acknowledge His Son’s death to save you and three, believing that God hears you, when you ask Him. You also draw near to Him, by beginning a relationship with Him. If you know He exist, then go ahead and get your heart purified, by claiming your freedom through His Son. His death paid for that cleansing, thus purifying and giving you the freedom to live as a child of God. His resurrection from death guarantees your eternal life with Him forever if you accept it, empowering you to live victoriously in whatever condition you find yourself in; life or death (John 11:25). God will hear you whenever you talk to Him through His Son. It is only through His Son, that you are able to come to God. No one can come to the Father but by Him, and no one can to go to Him, unless the Father who sent Him draws them (John 6:44). It’s very important that you draw near to God so He can, in return, draw you to His Son. His Son, Jesus Christ has to be Lord in your life to be able to call God your Father. You cannot call God your Father and reject His Son, because if you deny the Son, you deny the Father as well (1 John 2:18-23). This is where the Holy Spirit comes in; He will lead you into all truth (John 16:12-13), He is the helper, comforter, teacher and the leader of ALL truth, and for this you will need faith, because without faith, it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6). The faith you need to accept this is already provided. We all have been given a measure of faith (Romans 12:3). You see, God has done all the work, now it’s your turn to draw near to Him with the equipment that He has given to you. So He can welcome you as heir with His Son in His eternal kingdom.
As you seek God, the Holy Spirit will guide you to where God is. God can be found in His word, His word speaks to us with power, and this is where we begin to search. When it is done diligently, with the power of His Christ and the help of His Holy Spirit, our hearts are transform and our minds renewed (Romans 12:2 ). His Spirit is actively speaking to every child of God, leading them to their Heavenly Father and that is very pleasing to God. The angels of heaven are not left out of it; they too rejoices over one sinner who repents (Luke 15:10). You are surrounded by such great witnesses (Hebrews 12:1-2), that if you understand all this, you will never worry about who you are in Christ again. “You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for His own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light (1 Peter 2:9)”. God has prepared all this for those who love Him and Keep His commandments. What a might Father in heaven we serve! After knowing all this, will you turn back and ignore all this protection and provision? I won’t! May the peace that God gives be with you as you draw nearer to God daily, until Jesus returns to take you home. God bless you.
