The Two Adams

the AdamsThe creation of the first Adam: “The Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature. And the Lord God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, and there He put the man whom He had formed” (Genesis 2:7-8).  There were two Adams on earth; the first was called man, he was Eve’s husband, he and his wife ate the fruit God commanded him not to touch from a certain tree. When they did so, they became naked and got fig leaves to cover themselves. As they heard God coming in the cool of the day, they run and hid themselves. They were never the same because they became homeless. They continued running away from the garden that he knew as home, to go and work hard to take care of himself and his family, by sweating, and the wife by having children in pain.  The Birth of the first Adam was very different to that of the last Adam.

A woman did not give birth to the first Adam, God created him as an adult. Isn’t this amazing? He was created perfect, yet his choice was disobedience. The devil deceived the wife, and she gave her husband to eat of the forbidden fruit. He was a grown man and did not learn from humans, he was in charge and had dominion over all the earth, yet, he chose to eat what was forbidden, knowing that in the day he eat of it, he would die. He died, as a result of disobedience to God and his descendants inherited the deadly disease by this the first Adam. He lost the authority God gave to him, but God had a plan to take it back and give to whomever He chooses.

The Last Adam

His beginning: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him was not any thing made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it” (John 1:1-5). The first Adam has a beginning as a human being. The Father has no beginning. His life began as the “Word”, He was in the beginning with God,  He created everything including the first Adam, He is the I AM (John 8:58), He is the only begotten of the Father, and He came from heaven to live on earth as human.  19 weekspregnantHe became a human (flesh) by the power of God’s Holy Spirit and was conceived in the womb by a chosen virgin Mary, betrothed to Joseph. At that moment, He was no longer the Word, but a fetus growing as flesh and blood.

He was no longer “with God”, but with humans. He is also called Immanuel, Jesus Christ by many, Son of man, A priest forever, and many more titles. Scripture teaches that He is the Father’s only begotten (only one of His kind). He was so human that His Genealogy can be traced; “Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham etc… (Matthew 1:1-17). This Adam was born of a virgin, called Jesus Christ, Emmanuel, wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Prince of Peace and many other names. He was raised by humans and taught by them until the age of maturity; then The Spirit of God took over! Was He doing anything of His own authority? Nope! He went through the training and felt the pain just like a human, but a human from heaven. He continued to work as instructed by His Father, and if all what He did were recorded, the earth could not hold its contents. He did all this in 3 years and they did not believe Him? We would take a whole lifetime and we still would not achieve one hour of what He did. What a might God we serve!

After He passed the test with a first class distinction, He said:”It is Finished”. Darkness covered the earth and the tombs were opened the dead people was seen coming out of their graves by many afterwards! This Adam got the authority back! God is happy with the finished work, when His Son though in agony, carried everyone’s infection (sin) upon Himself (John 3:16-17). He achieved His Father’s assignment and is seated on His right hand, waiting for His enemies to be made His footstool (Hebrews 10:13)! What an elevation, from being spitted upon, and shouting: “If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross (Matthew 27:40)? Soon He will return us to God’s kingdom in perfect condition, removing every stain or blemish. He has all authority after His resurrection, which the first Adam was given before His death.

Although there are a few differences between the two Adams, there are many similarities also. God is the power driving them both, in different generations. They were appointed by God to do the work of a leader. After the authority given to the first Adam was stolen by the serpent, the last Adam took it from him and no one is able to take it from Him now. No devil bound for hell has power to do so. Therefore, salvation for the human being is through Christ alone, to the glory of God the Father.

Jesus teachingBecause of this success, we have through Him (last Adam), the victory over sin and the enemy. Do not let sin have dominion over you, conquer it by the blood of our last Adam (the Lamb of God). He conquered our enemy and very soon, that last enemy will be gone forever along with all those who choses to make him their friend. The last Adam is the Christ. One day He will come in the clouds and His people will be waiting for Him to destroy the last enemy called death (1 Corinthians 15:26). What a day that will be, when Jesus comes, with all rulers and authority in submission to His reign! He will reign on the earth (Revelation 5:9-10)  and we will be heirs with Him (Romans 8:16-17). Never again will an enemy enter our dwelling and infect us with sin; they will be no more (Revelation 21:4). To God be the glory, forever and ever, amen. God’s peace be with you.
