Why Did You Doubt?

Jesus Peter sinkingIn the fourth watch of the night He came to them, walking on the sea. When the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were terrified and said: “It is a ghost!” and they cried out in fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them saying: “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid. Peter answered Him: “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus.

But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me.” Jesus immediately reached out His hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt? (Matthew 14:25-31). Peter had full confidence when Jesus commanded him to come to Him, but as he saw what was around him, fear entered and this caused him to doubt. As he continued to doubt, he began to sink. We are to have faith in the power of God, as we see the storms around us, we should not look too long at it and allow it to make us fearful and distract our determination to be confident in the word of God. We will sink, and the fear will overcome us. We need to remember the promise Jesus gave us. He said that trouble will come, but He promised not leave us helpless (John 16:7).

He promised to send help, and the promised help has arrived. He arrived a very long time ago, and He is still here speaking to us the things of God. Has doubt filled our minds and caused us to sink? Remember the promise, that He will never leave or forsake you (Hebrews 13:5-6). If you are sinking today, it could be that you have doubts. God won’t let you fall, Just like Jesus, He will reach out to help you. Grab hold of your confidence, pick up the faith in God, get back the first love, pull yourself up and continue forward, because God’s Holy Spirit is stretching out His hand to help you. Reach out and take hold of His hand so you can be lead by Him. The sinking is your doing, not God’s. You need to be faithful that He who promised is faithful, He will not fail you. When you find yourself sinking again, remember it was because you doubted it happened. God grant that you may continue to fear not, for He is with you. Why did you doubt? If you do what He commanded you He is with you always even to the end of the age (Matthew 28:19-20). May God continue to help you walk above your problems and fears. If He is with you, what can anyone do to you (Hebrews 13:5-6)? Fear Not! God bless you.
