God said: I will send a famine on the land; not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord. They shall wander from sea to sea, and from north to east; they shall run to and fro, to seek the word of the Lord, but they shall not find it. (Amos 8:11-12). Notice it is God sending the famine, and not humans.
God is giving us time to store His word in our minds and our hearts, so we may not sin against Him, but woe to those who has no word when the famine comes! The reason for the famine is because of disobedience to God and His word. It is overwhelming how people don’t want to hear His word, but carry on as if there is no God. They may think He does not exist, and that He is delaying, but it is evident they do not know Him or His word (1 Timothy 1:3-11), so they go about teaching lies instead. He has taken this away from them, and they are not aware of it. They think that what they are doing is right in their own eyes, because God has given to them a strong delusion, believing the lie to be truth (2 Thessalonians 2:9-12). They are deceiving themselves because only those who stored God’s word earlier, will be able to use it to protect them. While the famine is not too bad yet, please do memorize it, and get use to doing so on a regular basis, because it will become worse. The time will come when people will look for a word from God and they will labour in vain, because it will not be available.
The word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart (Hebrews 4:12). If you have it, you are well equipped, but you need to know how to use it like Jesus did. It’s very powerful too, no one will be able to use it if they don’t have it. Clothe yourself with that amour so when the fiery darts approaches, you will be able to extinguish it with every word of God that you have stored. Jesus used that same word against the devil in the wilderness and conquered him (Matthew 4:4-10). The word of God will help you in your battle, treasure it, look after it, live by it and make sure you are able to quote it with the help of the Holy Spirit, when the time comes for you to do so. Know what is written so when they quote it to you, you are able to understand what “it is written means”. The devil also quoted: “it is written” to Christ, but He knew when to quote and how to quote the word of God better than the devil. Because it is God sending that famine, no one but Him has control over it. Get ready for it and you will not be overcome by it.
God has spoken and His word does not return to Him empty (Isaiah 55:11). The famine is here, and it will worsen. If you have not done so, prepare for it now because you are not able to survive the famine without it. The warning is given, no one has an excuse when it arrives. God’s word will not be found, so study, study, study, so you can show yourself approved unto God; your labour will not be in vain. While it is not so obvious to some, keep storing so you don’t go hungry later. May God guide and protect you through the famine, in Jesus’ name, Amen. (Bible translation used: ESV).
