Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him; and assembling all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born. They told him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for so it is written by the prophet: “And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you shall come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel (Matthew 21-6). This was His earthly birth. Just like us, He was born of a woman, but He too needed to be born again, and be used by God to guide us to eternal life. His life began in the Spirit of God, and continued until it was given freely to save sinners like us. His other birth prepared Him for the work He came to fulfilled
His Second Birth: Jesus was not only born of a virgin, but He was born of the Spirit also (Mark 1:1-12).. He was born again into the Spirit of God, be anointed to do a work no one else was able do: to save sinners from their sins (John 3:16). With this birth, He was anointed to overcome the devil, the Jews, the teachers of the laws, the demons, and last of all, death. We too need to be born again and be empowered by the Spirit of God, to be able to overcome them all. Too often the virgin birth is the emphasis, but the Spirit birth is forgotten, but it is the birth by fire, water and blood we need to help us overcome and win the victory in the name of Jesus Christ. When you celebrate the birth of Jesus this year, remember that it is God who sent Him here to save you, and it’s not only about His physical birth, but the Spirit birth also. Do not celebrate His birth in vain, because after they knew who He was, they made every attempt to kill Him. God bless you, as you journey with Him and His Son.
