And they said to Him, “The disciples of John fast often and offer prayers, and so do the disciples of the Pharisees, but yours eat and drink.”
There’s a time for everything under heaven, but in this case Jesus explained that the time for fasting wasn’t while He was with them, but when He would be gone they would fast. Fasting and prayer is important, but there’s a time and a place for it and it is to be taken seriously . He even said when fasting don’t be like the hypocrites or to be noticed by others (Matthew 6:5).
It’s not a show, it’s should be between you and God and carefully thought through. So next time you take time to fast and pray, do consider what Jesus has to say about it before you make that choice. May the Spirit of God bless and keep you holy as you serve Him in spirit and in truth.
