Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to Myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going. Thomas said to Him: Lord, we do not know where You are going. How can we know the way? Jesus said to him: I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also. From now on you do know Him and have seen Him. Philip said to Him: Lord, show us the Father and it is enough for us. Jesus said to him: Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know Me, Philip? Whoever has seen Me has seen the Father. How can you say, show us the Father? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own authority, but the Father who dwells in Me does His works. Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me, or else believe on account of the works themselves. Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in Me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. (John 14:1-12)
Jesus’ authority is from His Father and we need not confuse this with equality He had in the beginning as the Word of God (John 1:1). Jesus was a human being at the time this conversation took place with Philip. He was under the authority of His Father and always have been, therefore He did as His Father instructed Him and not contrary to His instructions; both as the Word of God and as a human. This is what He meant when He told Philip that He has seen the Father if he had seen Him, as He is in perfect unity with His Father. He confirmed this in the scriptures many times and we need to take heed to His word, as he did not lie about it, but made it plain at all times to many witnesses, that His Father is greater than He is (John 14:28). Whatever authority Jesus got, it was given to Him By God and no one can take it from Him but God. Even His 1000 year reign has to come to an end and He has to give back to His Father full authority so He too will be in full subjection to Him after that time has come to an end (1 Corinthians 15:23-28). God is above all and has NO equal! No other gods, None like Him, in heaven or earth (Exodus 20:3, Exodus 9:14, Isaiah 46:8-11). God gives all authority to His Son, and whoever He chooses (Matthew 28:18), but is ultimately above all, in heaven and earth (1 Timothy 2:5-6) There is only ONE GOD and ONE MEDIATOR. Glory be to God and His Son.
